We’ve compiled a few resources here that we wanted to highlight - because wellness is always a top priority at St. Michael's!

Wellness is vital in 2023 because it is essential for maintaining good physical and mental health, which are more important than ever in a rapidly changing and uncertain world. Stress and anxiety levels are high due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, economic instability, and other challenges, and it is important to prioritize self-care in order to manage these stressors and prevent burnout. Additionally, as technology continues to advance and the lines between work and personal life become increasingly blurred, it is important to take breaks and practice self-care in order to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Overall, taking care of one's physical and mental health is essential for thriving in the modern world and navigating the challenges of the future.

Here are some steps you can take immediately to increase your wellbeing:

  1. Exercise regularly: Engaging in physical activity on a regular basis can improve your physical health and mental wellbeing. Aim to get at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, such as brisk walking or cycling, at least five days a week.

  2. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment and accepting it without judgment. It can help you reduce stress and anxiety, increase focus and productivity, and improve overall wellbeing. You can practice mindfulness through activities such as meditation, yoga, or simply focusing on your breath for a few minutes each day.

  3. Get enough sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for physical and mental health. Aim to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and establish a consistent sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. Avoid screens for at least an hour before bed, and create a sleep-friendly environment by keeping your bedroom dark and cool.
